How To Remove Vinyl Window Frosting?

Vinyl window frosting is a great non permanent solution to having privacy without the hassel of curtains or blinds and it's much easier to maintain, however it doesn't last forever and will eventualy need to be replaced. As such today we will discuss how to remove vinyl window frosting.


You will need the following items: 
  • 1 x Spray bottle.
  • 1 x Dish-wash liquid /Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo.
  • 1 x Window scraper.
  • 1 x Window cleaning squeegee.
  • 3 x Old towels.
  • Few Old News Papers.

Prepare the windows:

Place the one towel in the windowsill then place the news paper on top of the towel and place one towel on the ground underneath the window if you are indoors. This preparation will help to reduce the mess and cleanup of the surrounding area.

Mix a small amount of dish-wash liquid or baby shampoo into your spray bottle with water, the solution should be slightly soapy.

Removing the vinyl on window frosting:

First test if you can peel the vinyl window frosting, take a small edge and try to peel it back and away from the window. If you able to do this then lightly scaw the vinyl in strips so that you work with small sections and slowly peel the vinyl from the window. 

If the vinyl doesn't want to peel away from the window you need to scrap it. Take your scraper and place it into any part of the vinyl; spray with the dishwash liquid solution mix and wiggle the scrapper into the vinyl. Spray the solution and use some force while pushing into the vinyl, a small section will be scrapped away from the glass. Sometimes the vinyl can be extremely brittle and will flake away from the window in small sections. Always spray the liquid solution before you scrape so you are less likely to scratch the window and be cautious of pushing your scrapper into any edges - concrete, metal, old putty etc. - that could blunt the blade which will cause scratches in the window.

As you scrap your scrapper will become filled with vinyl, gently shack off the frost onto the newspaper and keep scraping.




Keep doing this till the window panel is completely frost free, make sure to push in towards the window frame and drag the scraper towards yourself slightly to make sure no frost is stuck in the window edge.

Once the windows are frost free, carefully remove the newspapers with the spray on frost particles and dispose of them in a bin. Now you can clean the window with the window cleaning squeegee and another old towel that wasn't used during the scraping process and your windows are now clean and clear.

How To Apply Window Frosting Vinyl?

Before we start, you get two types of applications a wet application and a dry application.
